One Soul Rising

(by K. Brown)

Intro: Guitar refrain from "Peace in the Valley"(light blues in 'G') - then leads into OSR in 'G' (gospel feel).

I feel my soul rising today
I feel my soul rising today
'Cause I'm on my way
Goin' Home
Goin' Home
I feel my soul rising today

Won't be slowed down by worries anymore
Won't be slowed down by worries anymore
'Cause I'm bound to Heaven's door
Goin' home
Goin' home
No worries slow me down anymore

'Cause I'm bound to Heaven's door
won't be troubled anymore
No worries slow me down today

When you come by don't you weep where I lay
When you come by don't you weep where I lay
'Cause I'm gone to my reward
I'll be waiting
At Heaven's door
Yeah, one soul is rising today

(note: The story here is, I wrote this a month or so before my Dad passed away. He knew, and we all knew he would be going ... terminal lung cancer ... and I was reaching for something to comfort the idea. I imagined him passing along this lament to all of us. The bit on Peace In The Valley is because that was his favorite hymn. And I ended up singing this song at his memorial service - accompanied by my sister on fiddle ... and my son singing harmony. And that was my tribute to my Dad.

Later on some of this verse/melody found it's way into the song Another Failed Believer ... and in a off-handed way ... that song was/is also a tribute to my upbringing ... even though I may not have quite hit the mark ...)
